Test Footage

Some footage of the clay character I built. I was going to shoot the puppet walking around but it was top heavy and kept on falling over. So I taped it down to a block of wood.

Building Stage (Set floor)

I finished building the Stage (Set Floor) using two by fours. The top is condensed sawdust. This will be helpful when I drill holes. There won't be any splintering.

Finished Stop Motion Puppet

I'm really happy with how this turned out. I got the plastic ball eyes from AnimateClay and painted them myself.

Mixing Clay Colors

Here I mixed two different colored clays together. I used a double boiler to melt the plasticine. After the colors are mixed, I poured the clay onto plastic wrap to let it cool.

Next step,  I used a lighter and melted the clay onto all parts of the puppet. This is key because the clay won't stick unless you do this step.

Armature with Foam

I got the pink foam from Home Depot and used liquid nails to glue the  foam to the armature.  This way the head won't be as heavy if i just used clay.

Stop Motion Armature

This is the armature for my stop motion puppet. I used 16 gauge wire twisted together then plumbers epoxy for the joints. There are nuts in the bottom of the feet so it can be secured  to the stage floor.

Design for Stop Motion Puppet

This is going to be the design for my first wire armature stop motion puppet. I decided to make it to run some animation tests. It's going to be 9 1/2 inches tall instead of 71/2 inches. I'm using 16 gauge wire for the armature skeleton and epoxy for the joints.
